Joint Replacement / Arthroplasty - Peter D. Vizzi, M.D., Lafayette, Louisiana and surrounding areas including Breaux Bridge, Carencro, Opelousas, Abbeville, Youngsville, Broussard

The replacement of a human joint is a highly specialized field of medicine in which metal and plastic implants are used to replace the worn out cartilage in a joint. The techniques and science are continuously improving. Now with better materials providing state of the art implants and more minimally invasive joint replacements, the patients are recovering faster and overall dong better. There are multiple procedures for each joint and keeping up to date is important in order to know the various indications for a person’s condition.

Joint replacement is most commonly used for conditions of arthritis when there is bone rubbing on bone. People will often experience pain and inflammation in the joint space. There are other conditions which may cause joint pain so a proper diagnosis is imperative. Dr. Vizzi maintains his board certification with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons (ABOS) and keeps his knowledge of orthopedic and sports medicine care up to date by participating in the specialized maintenance of certification program.

The most common joint replacement surgeries include:
