Bankart tear / Injury
A Bankart tear is another name for an injury to the labrum, most specifically the front labrum also known as the anterior labrum. The labrum is a soft tissue structure that surrounds the socket portion (glenoid) of the shoulder joint. The labrum assists in stabilizing the shoulder in sports related activities and also serves as an attachment spot for the biceps tendon. The labrum can be injured in forceful shoulder motions such as a shoulder joint dislocation which is the most common way to get a bankart injury.
